Vietnam - Haircut

 According to locals, it is believed that a badly timed haircut could cause you to forget or having a memory loss. This is bad especially for students, while having a haircut right before an important test or exam makes you look good, forget everything they’ve learned during exam surely bad luck. So, it is better for the students to get a new haircut after the exam.

Hawaii - Rock

 It is a well known belief that when you visit Hawaii, avoid bringing rock, sand or other natural materials back from the islands as it will brings bad luck until the native elements are returned.

Thailand - Honk

 In Thailand, when you drive on the road, especially at night, is it important to honk when passing in dangerous corners where many accidents have occurred. It is believed that the honking allows you to greet the spirits living on the site.

Uganda - Sacrifice

 There is a belief that in Uganda, if men have some body abnormality, such as ear piercing or a scar, it will make them ineligible for human sacrifice because they are no longer pure and intact in terms of shedding blood.

Indonesia - Whistling

 It is best to avoid whistling at night. Some people believe that whistling at night could attract ghosts. This superstition is more prevalent in villages as people usually stay at home at night.

Australia - Animal Spirit

In Australia, there is a belief that certain animal spirit can actually harm people. Killing a willy-wagtail bird makes the bird’s spirit angry causing storms and violence that can kill people.

India - Lizard

In India, in some area, it is believed that if 3 lizards come towards you, it is lucky sign of marriage but if more than 3 lizards that come towards you, it is a bad sign of upcoming death.

Vietnam - Wedding

In Vietnam, when giving gifts for brides and grooms on their wedding day, they are usually given in pairs, including blankets. Avoid giving a single item because it is believed that it will cause bad luck that the marriage is not expected to last long. Always opted for two less expensive items than a single more expensive one.

Japan - Beggar

In Japan, it is believed that if a beggar ever comes to your doorstep, you're supposed throw salt to your entry way where the beggar has been. Failing to do so will bring bad luck and financial misfortune to your household.

Brazil - Salt

It is believed that placing a small cup or dish of salt in the corner of your house, will bring you good luck.

France - Bread

The French believe that handling a loaf of bread upside-down or placing it upside-down on the table will brings hunger and bad luck to both the giver and the recipient.

India - Death

It is believed that in India, when there is a birth or death in the family, the family members should not go to a temple or light a lamp at home, for 15 days. For death, they don't attend any marriages and do not celebrate any festivals for a year.

Russia - Table

There is a belief that unmarried people should avoid sitting at the corner of the table. They will find difficulties finding their life partner and will not get married.

Germany - Roof Tiles

One superstition held in Germany that if someone has difficulty dying, one may ease the process by lifting up three tiles on the roof.

China - White

In China, the colour white is associated with death/mourning. It is best to avoid sending invitations or flowers in white, money in a white envelopes are called 'pak kum' usually given to the family of the deceased to help with the funeral cost.

Russia - Fire

In Russia, sick animals were driven through fires or driven over the places where the fires burned the next morning to cure them from diseases.

Japan - Sleep

In Japan, it is believed that you'll have a short life if you sleep at night with your head facing north. It is customary that Japanese corpses are laid with their head facing north during 'wake' ceremony.

Taiwan - Moon

In Taiwan, children were told not to point their finger at the moon. It is believed that pointing your finger at the moon will make the guardian woman on the moon angry and cut your ears.

Italy - Child

In Italy, one should not walk over a child that is laying on the ground. It is believed that it will bring the child bad luck. Walking over someone who is laying on the floor is like someone walking over their grave.

Thailand - Black

One should avoid wearing black when visiting a patient in the hospital. Black colour is associated with pain and sadness and black clothing usually worn for mourning.
