During Chinese New Year, it is believed that you have to avoid greeting someone in their bedroom, it's considered bad luck. Usually, in order to celebrate the new year in good luck, the elderly and sick family members will be moved from their bedroom to the living room on that particular day.

In Russia, its considered bad luck when a cat, especially a black one, crosses in front of you when you're walking. Some people will avoid them by chasing out or outrun the cat.
